Abstract:Using data on global earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 and above since 2021,as released by the China Earthquake Network, this paper conducts a quarterly statistical analysis, with a particular focus on earthquakes occurring between July and September 2024. Two significant events, the M7.3 earthquake in northern Chile and the M6.1 earthquake near El Salvador, are analyzed in detail as representative cases. The study examines the disasters and impacts caused by these earthquakes, summarizes the seismic activity patterns and disaster losses during the quarter, and provides insights to support further research in earthquake monitoring, disaster assessment, and mitigation strategies.
