Abstract:On December 18,2023,an MS6.2 earthquake struck Jishishan County,Gansu Province,at a focal depth of 10km. Based on observational data from geoelectric field stations located within 300km of the epicenter from 2020 to 2023,the dominant azimuths of the geoelectric field were calculated. Combined with a virtual dislocation model of the seismogenic fault and the focal mechanism solution,the characteristics of anomalous azimuthal variations were analyzed. the results show that: (1)the azimuth angles at the Dawu(old),Sitan,and Gufeng stations exhibited anomalous changes from May to December 2023,with quasi-synchronous behavior in the time domain; (2)in the analysis of annual-scale variations in monthly mean values,the azimuth angles at the Dawu(old)and Sitan stations deviated significantly from their background values during the anomalous period;and(3)analysis based on the virtual dislocation model of the earthquake fault indicates that the azimuth angles at the Dawu(old)and Sitan stations,located in the compression-enhanced zone,mainly exhibited anomalous deflections,and during the anomalous period,the dominant azimuth tended to align in the direction orthogonal to the principal compressive stress axis P. In contrast,the azimuth angle at the Gufeng station,located in the relative extensional zone,mainly exhibited anomalous frequent jumps,and during the anomalous period,the azimuth tended to approach the direction of the principal tensile stress axis T.
