Abstract:Based on a statistical analysis of earthquakes with magnitudes M≥5.0 recorded in China in 2025,this study integrates earthquake disaster loss assessments and field investigation data provided by the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China,together with data from the earthquake agencys of relevant provinces,autonomous regions,and municipalities. the study summarizes the earthquake disaster losses,damage characteristics,and major seismic disaster events in mainland China in 2025. In addition,earthquake disaster data from the past decade are comparatively analyzed to examine trends in the frequency of damaging earthquakes,casualties,and economic losses in mainland China. the results show that the overall level of seismic activity in mainland China in 2025 was relatively low;however,disaster losses were highly concentrated and were dominated by the M6.8 Dingri earthquake in Xizang. the analysis further indicates that factors such as the time of occurrence,earthquake magnitude,the seismic performance of buildings in the affected areas,and the level of regional economic development played important roles in explaining differences in disaster losses.
